Today, my post is not about a painter, contemporary or otherwise. It is rather a tribute to one of my favorite performing artists, Madame Cesaria Evora, one of the best singers in the world. Cesaria Evora passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 in Mindelo, on her native island of Sao Vicente in Cape Verde, West Africa. She was laid to rest December 21, 2011.
Cesaria Evora won Grammy and numerous other awards and recognition around the world for her songs. She was often referred to as the “Barefoot Diva” because she often performed without shoes in solidarity with the poor women and children in her country who cannot afford shoes.
Cesaria Evora
What sad news is this that I hear?
It is not true. Is it?
Oh! My heart weeps!
What have you done again this time?
Death, you are simply heartless, cruel and selfish.
Show your face! Coward, you can’t.
What did you intend to accomplish?
Rien! Nothing! You’ve accomplished absolutely nothing.
Madame Cesaria Evora lives!
She lives on in her music.
She lives in my heart.
She lives in the hearts and memories of her fans around the world.
Madame Cesaria Evora, may the light of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
illuminate your paths and lead you home.
Rest in Peace.
Obrigada!
